Nurses for Newborns Honors Melinda Monroe’s Service, Plans for Her Retirement
July 27, 2026: St. Louis, Mo. – CEO Melinda Monroe, and the Nurses for Newborns Board of Directors, today announced plans for Monroe’s retirement in November after 18 years of service to the St. Louis-based nonprofit organization.

“Melinda Monroe has guided Nurses for Newborns through nearly two decades of expanded partnerships, connections to community, and larger geographic reach across Missouri and Tennessee while serving our most vulnerable neighbors. Her leadership, compassion, and care allowed Nurses for Newborns to build a practice of care that now includes community health workers and social workers to meet the growing needs of families.
“We honor Melinda’s service to Nurses for Newborns and celebrate her tenure as she moves into retirement.
“Melinda, in partnership with the Board and our incredible team, has ensured the future success of Nurses for Newborns. From MacKenzie Scott funding to national accreditation through COA, she and her team have achieved numerous remarkable milestones. Over the coming months, the board will follow our transition plan and work with a consultant to conduct a search for the next CEO. “The work of Nurses for Newborns is more important than ever, and we look forward to the next chapter of leadership for this 35-year-old organization.”
