$10K to Support Newborns and their Families: Grant money for Nurses for Newborns comes from the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 13, 2025) – Many new parents would welcome a home visit from a nurse who could provide resources and advice for everything from infant care to postpartum depression. For some families, that help is critical – and that’s the work of Nurses for Newborns (NFN).
The organization provides free home visits from registered nurses who have experience in obstetric, neonatal and pediatric care. They work with families of medically fragile infants, mothers with medical, mental health or substance use concerns, and teenage parents.
To help meet the need in Middle Tennessee, Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee has received a $10,000 grant from the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation, Inc., the philanthropy arm of O’Reilly Auto Parts.
“At NFN, we aim to ensure every baby has the opportunity to thrive,” said Matt Robertson, executive director of Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee. “Our work can start at the prenatal stage and continue through age 2. We support at-risk families by providing healthcare, education and resources, including things like diapers, formula, portable cribs and breast pumps – to help babies have the best possible start in life.”
NFN has been serving Middle Tennessee for 24 years. In that time, it’s completed more than 78,615 home visits benefiting more than 10,650 families. The organization is currently serving 350 to 450 families every year, who are referred by neonatal intensive care units, pediatricians, case workers and community agencies.
“We were impressed with how the nurses with NFN have been able to improve outcomes for babies and families,” said Julie Gray, president of the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation, Inc. “Because of the home visits, nurses can assess the environment for potential hazards and make recommendations for safe sleep. They’re making a huge impact with each family they visit.”
NFN’s grant is part of a year-end round of giving for the O’Reilly Foundation, which awarded $1 million across 35 nonprofits nationwide. It’s the largest distribution of funds from the foundation since its founding in 2020.
The organization is always looking for supporters and volunteers. If you’d like to get involved, go online to nursesfornewborns.org/Tennessee.
